Director Bishal Dutta’s feature debut, “It Lives Inside,” is a supernatural horror thriller that centers around Sam, an Indian-American teenager. Sam’s struggle with her Indian heritage takes a sinister turn when she accidentally releases a demon that preys on her former best friend’s loneliness. To confront this malevolent force, Sam must confront her cultural identity. While the film’s premise is promising, it falls short in execution, feeling overly derivative and playing it safe. Despite this, “It Lives Inside” remains watchable and somewhat entertaining, largely due to Suri’s strong performance as Sam. Supporting actors Bajwa and Gabriel contribute emotionally rich scenes, and Dutta effectively creates a creepy atmosphere that gradually builds tension. However, the film relies too heavily on jump scares that miss the mark.
